THE POWER OF 3 PARTNERS

Three Community Partner worked together to share their expertise and Honoring Choices information and tools with the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce’s Professional Women’s Network.  “We were very pleased to have a presentation at our Community Connection March Program,” says Kathleen McDonald, Executive Director. “The attendees took to heart, for themselves and their loved ones, the Honoring Choices mission to ensure that every adult have access to planning information in making the choices so critical to their care.” In addition, the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce’s Professional Women’s Network is the first women’s group to raise funds for Honoring Choices to further our mission.

Jenn Quinn, Owner/President of ComForCare, Westford, began the discussion by talking with the group about the importance of making decisions early on. “Live the life you want to live by planning ahead,”  said Ms. Quinn. “It is recommended that any individual 18 years or older age complete a Health Care Proxy as a first step, naming someone who could represent your decisions, if you were unable to do so yourself.”   Each attendee received a useful packet of health care planning information and Massachusetts tools to use personally and to share with their families and friends.

Attorney Christine Boutin, Levine-Piro Law, Maynard, followed Ms. Quinn by explaining the importance of another legal document called a durable power of attorney.  “The durable power of attorney is your voice when you may not be able to speak for yourself in the future,” said Attorney Boutin. “It provides peace of mind in knowing that your trusted, chosen agent will pay your bills and  maintain and protect your assets should you become incapacitated.”

Ann Rosa, Life Care Center of Acton, hosted the event.  As an Honoring Choices Partner Ms. Rosas experiences first hand the effect of good planning with adults and their families. “Everyday, we strive to provide our patients with the best quality care by understanding their care choices and putting one’s plan into action,” said Ms Rosa.  “We work with our patients to develop a plan that reflects the type(s) of care that they want.”

The event was a terrific success. We are grateful to our 3 Community Partners for joining forces to bring their expertise into the community. We wholeheartedly thank the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce’s Professional Women’s Network for their generous contribution.
